With proper care and maintenance, partial dentures can provide a comfortable and effective solution for those with missing teeth.
Acrylic partial dentures
As the name implies, acrylic partial dentures are composed of acrylic material, the same as complete dentures, providing additional support. Stainless steel clips are typically attached to the acrylic base, securing the denture to existing natural teeth. Acrylic dentures are typically easy to add teeth onto. Acrylic dentures may need to be thicker and larger than a metal framed denture.
Chrome Cobalt partial dentures
Metal frame dentures are crafted using a biocompatible metal alloy made of chrome and cobalt, ensuring a high level of safety for oral health. The frames are precision-casted to provide exceptional accuracy and durability. Additionally, metal rests are placed on your natural teeth, which transfers bite forces to your remaining teeth and prevents the denture from putting undue pressure on your gums while in use.
Chrome dentures have several advantages over acrylic dentures. Firstly, they are more durable and robust, which makes them less likely to break or crack. Secondly, they are thinner and lighter, which makes them more comfortable to wear. They also have a better fit, which can help to reduce irritation or soreness in the mouth.
Metal frame dentures can still be repaired or added to, like acrylic dentures; however, it may require welding in some cases to ensure the best result.
Flexible partial dentures
Flexible partial dentures are made from thermoplastic nylon. They are flexible, translucent and require no metal retainers because the flexibility of the denture is used to retain the denture. Nylon dentures can be added to or repaired like other dentures, but the process means you may be without your denture for about a week.
